ASHLAND CITY, TN – A Cheatham County sergeant who was hospitalized following a car accident last week has died from his injuries, WSMV reported.

The incident happened Aug. 18 as Sgt. Carl Lyttle was driving on Frey Street while off-duty. His truck went off the road and crashed into a tree. Lyttle was transported to the hospital after initial CPR efforts at the scene by an Ashland City Reserve Officer. He passed away on Monday.

In a Facebook post, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office described Lyttle as “a dedicated law officer who trains everyone to take care of their minds and bodies because this job is physically grueling and mentally challenging.” The sheriff’s office said he had been working an extra job when the crash occurred.
