by Ponce Law | September 18th, 2020

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TN – Police say a Robertson County man has been arrested and indicted in connection with a deadly accident last year, Fox 17 Nashville reports.

61-year-old Stephen Avrit was driving a van for a transportation service for the disabled when the crash occurred on July 11, 2019. Investigators say Avrit lost control while driving on Briley Parkway during a rainstorm, and the vehicle hit a rock wall. A passenger confined to wheelchair, 77-year-old Betty Clark, was injured and passed away several days later.  Avrit and Clark’s nurse were not seriously injured.

According to police, Avrit had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit on the day of the accident.  He has now been indicted on charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.  Avrit was booked into the Metro jail on Wednesday.
