NASHVILLE, TN – Police say a man is facing charges after a car accident in Nashville early Friday morning that left a baby dead.
According to WSMV, 21-year-old Malcolm Hensley was arrested following the crash on Bell Road near Couchville Pike at 1:50 a.m. Metro Police said Hensley drove a Ford Focus off the road and struck a rock wall. Responding officers found the man holding the 4-month-old baby in the driver’s seat.
The safety carrier was not secured to the rear seat, police said. Investigators said Malcolm Hensley told them he crashed when a deer ran in front of the car, but there was no evidence indicating a swerve on the road.
Hensley was arrested after leaving the hospital and was charged with vehicular homicide and felony aggravated child abuse. An autopsy will be performed to determine the baby’s cause of death.
