Crash alert: Lawsuit filed over crash that killed Nashville pedestrian

by Ponce Law | September 21st, 2020

NASHVILLE, TN – A lawsuit has been filed in connection with a crash that killed a young man walking on a street in south Nashville last year, WSMV reports.

The fatal incident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 19, 2019 on Hamilton Church Road. 19-year-old Dwayne Sims of Antioch was walking when he was fatally struck by a Nissan Altima.

The lawsuit was filed against Nashville Electric Service and claims that streetlights were not functioning at the time of the accident. The driver of the car that hit Sims was also named in the suit.

In response, Nashville Electric Service says it did not receive a report of a streetlight outage for that location near the time of the crash and said it is sympathetic to what occurred, but would not comment further.
