NASHVILLE, TN – A crash on Interstate 40 Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a driver and shut down the highway for several hours, according to WSMV.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Noel D. McQueen of Lily, Kentucky. The accident happened at about 4 p.m. as McQueen was driving a bucket truck on the exit ramp of I-40 near Spence Lane.
Nashville police said McQueen crashed into the impact attenuator after driving into the gore area at the exit ramp. The vehicle caught fire and McQueen was trapped inside. Rescuers were unable to extricate him as the truck’s cab went up in flames.
A passenger in the vehicle, 39-year-old Jerimiah Smith, was pulled to safety.
