MT. JULIET, TN – A police officer’s patrol vehicle with a K-9 inside was struck on Interstate 40 in Mt. Juliet on Saturday afternoon. WVLT reported the accident happened as police were responding to multiple crashes on I-40 near mile marker 227.
The patrol SUV was hit at 4:32 p.m. as Corporal Chris Barth was tending to a crash and checking on people who were hurt. The accident happened just as Barth had gotten back into his vehicle. Neither the officer nor his K-9 Majlo were injured. Barth was wearing his seatbelt at the time, police said.
Officials estimated it would take about an hour and a half to clear the crash scene.
