CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN – A chase by state troopers Tuesday ended with a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County that left four people hospitalized, 1057 News reports.
Members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol were pursuing a stolen Ford Fusion driven by 20-year-old Brendon J. Prettyman of Sevierville. Authorities say Prettyman was speeding when he drove onto the shoulder of I-40 east at the 309 mile marker and then attempted to go back into a travel lane. A man driving a Kenworth flatbed tractor-trailer had to move over as a result, and collided with a Hyundai Elantra.
The truck and the Elantra went through a guardrail and slid down an embankment before hitting some trees. The three drivers and a passenger in the Elantra were hospitalized at Cumberland Medical Center. No details were released on the extent of their injuries.
Charges against Prettyman are pending, the THP said.
