SMYRNA, TN – According to Fox 17 Nashville, the Vice-Mayor of Smyrna was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after being involved in a crash Thursday morning.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the incident began when a Nashville woman pulled over in a gravel lot on West Jefferson Pike in order to safely send a text message. As she was doing so, Vice-Mayor Marcum Adkins ran off the road and crashed into her vehicle, authorities said.
State troopers said Adkins was slurring his speech, was unsteady on his feet and had watery red eyes, and could not pass standardized field sobriety tests.
THP provided assistance to Smyrna Police at the scene of the accident.
News Channel 5 reported that Adkins was booked in Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on the DUI charge and later released. A court hearing was scheduled for Jan. 29.
