NASHVILLE, TN – A pedestrian was killed and a driver was injured following a collision on Interstate 40 westbound near Elm Hill Pike on Wednesday night, reports WKRN.
According to Nashville metro police, the fatal accident occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they were told by the Clarksville driver that he was traveling in the right lane of I-40 west when a pedestrian in the right shoulder waved his arms before jumping in front of his vehicle. The driver said he did not have enough time to avoid the collision.
Authorities identified the victim as 47-year-old Jason Ferguson of Nashville. Investigators said he was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver from Clarksville sustained minor injuries that required medical treatment.
The reason Ferguson was on I-40 is currently unclear, as there were no wrecked or damaged vehicles nearby. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the collision.
