NASHVILLE, TN – According to officials, a rollover crash on I-24 East in South Nashville on Saturday morning left the driver dead and a passenger injured, reports News Channel 5.
The accident involved a single vehicle and occurred near Exit 57 to Haywood Lane around 4:30 a.m.
Nashville metro police say that 30-year-old Meganne Ball of Nolensville was heading eastbound on I-24 in a 2012 Nissan Murano along with a passenger, 43-year-old Stephen Hall. Ball lost control of the vehicle before slamming into a rock wall, causing the SUV to roll. Ball and Hall were not secured by seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.
Ball was pronounced dead at the scene. Hall sustained critical injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
No updates on his condition have been provided.
While responders were working to clear the scene, another accident occurred at the same exit involving multiple vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Following the second crash, all eastbound lanes were closed while crews cleaned debris. By 8 a.m., the roadway was cleared and fully reopened.
It is not yet known what caused Ball to lose control of the SUV. If more information becomes available, an update will be provided.
