NASHVILLE, TN – According to a press release from the Nashville Police Department, the victim of the previously reported fatal pedestrian accident on Interstate 24 West on Wednesday has been identified.
Police say 33-year-old Brittany Lynn Lewis of Nashville died at the scene after being struck by a westbound SUV on I-24 just north of Haywood Lane around 8 p.m.
The SUV driver, 60-year-old Kevin Thomas, stayed at the scene and told authorities he was traveling in the second to far right lane when he spotted Lewis in the center of his lane but did not have time to avoid a collision.
Thomas did not display any signs of impairment.
At this time, authorities are unsure of why Lewis was standing in the roadway, as they did not find any disabled or abandoned vehicles nearby.
