NASHVILLE, TN – Authorities are investigating after a driver was found dead on Interstate 40 near the exit ramp to Jefferson Street early Thursday morning, reports WKRN.
Officers responded to the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. and closed the exit ramp to Jefferson Street.
Nashville Metro police say that two vehicles exited I-40 to Jefferson Street and pulled over after one driver noticed the other repeatedly drifting out of their lane. The first driver exited their vehicle to check on the second driver, and found him deceased at the wheel.
Metro police initially classified the death as a homicide and issued an alert. However, the death is now believed to have been caused by an earlier accident. News 2 reports that an appliance had fallen on the man Wednesday evening while he was moving it, causing a significant injury. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.
After clearing the scene, police opened the exit ramp to Jefferson Street at about 5:20 a.m.
