Multi-Vehicle Collision Results in Injuries and Deaths
Clyde and Willodean Newton, 66- and 62-years-old respectively, died when an SUV struck their Harley Davidson motorcycle from behind, reported Lawrenceburg Police Assistant Chief Daren Goolsby. According to Goolsby, the SUV was driven by 35-year-old Misti Risner, and the impact between Risner’s SUV and the Newton’s motorcycle caused both vehicles to enter the westbound lane of traffic, where they collided head-on with a third vehicle driven by Sara Elizabeth Wiser, 18, with her passenger, Adam Joe Wiser, 21. Risner was air-lifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center following the collision, and Sara and Adam Wiser were transported by EMS to Crockett Hospital.
Risk of Motorcycle Accidents in Tennessee
Due to the small size of their vehicles and the lack of protection they provide, motorcycle riders involved in accidents with other passenger cars and trucks are typically the ones who suffer the most severe consequences. Also because of their small profile, other motorists who are speeding or distracted behind the wheel may fail to see a motorcycle riding on Oklahoma roadways, significantly increasing the risk of a devastating collision. In the case of the Newtons, the motorcycle they were on had slowed or stopped with the flow of traffic when it was struck from behind by the SUV.
