Poor Road Design Responsible for Nashville Car Accidents Along I-40

For months, the legal staff at Ponce Law has been following the story of how poor engineering and design of a stretch of I-40 near Mt. Juliet has been responsible for dozens of motor vehicle collisions in the area. Just take a look at one of our previous posts on the subject.

Now, there’s data to support the suspicions that many Middle Tennesseans have about this stretch of road. According to The Tennessean, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has analyzed data and determined that the team that designed the stretch of road failed to adequately consider storm water runoff. Furthermore, TDOT says the road isn’t designed to handle the runoff it receives.

When a storm occurs, water can pool along the stretch of highway between Mt. Juliet Road and State Route 109. So far, the pooling water on I-40 has been responsible for at least 30 Mt. Juliet car accidents.

The findings were given to the company responsible for a recent road widening project that led to the issues, and the company stated they will be cooperative in addressing the problems.

At Ponce Law, we know just how dangerous a poor road design can be to motorists. That’s why our Nashville car accident lawyers applaud the efforts being made to correct this particular stretch of road and hope changes to the road’s design can be made soon.
