HICKMAN CO., TN – Two people were killed yesterday after rear-ending a semi truck that had slowed down due to eastbound traffic on I-40, reports WKRN.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said that at around 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon, a Nissan Altima crashed into the back of a semi truck that had slowed while approaching a traffic backup near mile marker 149. A third vehicle, a Chevy Silverado, then collided into the rear end of the Altima.
Officials say the two occupants of in the Altima—25-year-old driver Brett Bledsoe and his 21-year-old passenger Jessica Colter—were not wearing seatbelts and died in the crash.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Chevy Silverado were also injured. The semi truck driver and a passenger were unhurt.
A stretch of I-40 east was closed near the crash scene before reopening Sunday night. Westbound traffic on I-40 was not affected by the crash.
