RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – A driver was killed when her car went off a highway in Rutherford County and crashed Monday afternoon. According to WSMV, the accident happened at about 2 p.m. on Interstate 24 West between mile markers 71 and 72.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Andreana Vega of Antioch. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said she was driving west in a Hyundai Elantra when the vehicle went off the right shoulder of the road and hit a tree.
I-24 West in the area was shut down following the accident.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fatal wreck. Troopers said Vega was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

MURFREESBORO, TN – A man killed in a fatal accident in Murfreesboro earlier this month has been identified, according to the Rutherford Source.
This is an update to a previous story.
Authorities say the victim of the Sept. 2 crash was 59-year-old Ricky Allen Thomas of Murfreesboro.
According to investigators, Thomas was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck south on North Rutherford Boulevard when the vehicle went off the roadway and slammed into a tree.
An investigation into the fatal wreck is ongoing.

MURFREESBORO, TN – Police are investigating after a man was killed in a pickup truck crash near a college campus in Murfreesboro, WSMV reported.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday as a 59-year-old man was driving south on North Rutherford Boulevard near MTSU Boulevard at the Middle Tennessee State University campus.
The man’s pickup went off the road and slammed into a tree. The victim, the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the crash.

MURFREESBORO, TN – Police say a woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Murfreesboro Friday night.
According to WKRN, the accident happened at about 9:17 p.m. as the woman was attempting to cross Memorial Boulevard. She was struck by a southbound Nissan Maxima that then left the scene, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. She was identified as 73-year-old Elizabeth Jernigan.
Authorities say the 27-year-old man who drove the vehicle involved was stopped by police at Old Fort Parkway and Thompson Lane soon after the incident.

MURFREESBORO, TN – Police say a suspect fled the scene after crashing into a police car in Rutherford County early Friday morning, according to Fox 17 Nashville.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. as authorities were pursuing the man on the 2000 block of Northwest Broad Street in Murfreesboro. Police said the suspect, who was wanted for attempted armed robbery, rammed a police officer’s car head-on and then ran away.
Law enforcement authorities began a manhunt for him in a wooded area, with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and a drone brought in to assist in the search. There were no injuries reported in the crash.

MURFREESBORO, TN – One person was killed and three others injured in a head-on collision in Murfreesboro on Sunday, WKRN reported.
Authorities say a woman was driving a Honda Accord west on Medical Center Parkway when she lost control while crossing a bridge near Warren Street and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, crashing into a Ford Mustang.
First responders extricated the driver of the Mustang and a passenger in the back seat, 34-year-old Maximo Chicaj-Lopez. Lopez, of Antioch, was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
A 5-year-old girl in the Accord was injured and transported to the hospital. Police determined that the driver of the Accord hydroplaned after going too fast for the weather conditions.
An investigation is ongoing by the Fatal Accident Crash Team, and so far no charges have been filed.

A tragic motor vehicle collision near the campus of Middle Tennessee State University has claimed the life of a well-known student. The incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 24, at the corner of Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Greenland Drive in Murfreesboro.
Reports published by the Daily News Journal stated the victim was crossing the street in wheelchair at the intersection when he was struck by a turning dump truck. Rescue crews were called to the scene and tried to revive the victim, but they were unable to resuscitate him.
The victim had been involved in a serious accident in 2006 that left him paralyzed.
The victim’s brother says the initial accident left the man in a coma for several months. During his recovery, he gathered strength from numerous sources, such as prayer and music. Those who knew the victim best say he always remained positive despite the setbacks he faced, and he was a beacon of hope to all that knew him.
