BRENTWOOD, TN – A woman has been indicted in connection with a crash that killed a Brentwood police officer, according to a report by the Tennessean.

This is an update to a previous story.

24-year-old Ashley Kroese is facing charges stemming from the death of Officer Destin Legieza June 18. Authorities say Kroese was driving a Jeep Liberty that crossed the center line on Franklin Road at about 4:30 a.m. and struck Legieza’s vehicle in front of Turner Farm and Brentwood Market.  Legieza, who had been heading back to his precinct after an overnight shift, was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police presented evidence showing that Kroese’s blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was double the legal limit. She has now been indicted by a Williamson County grand jury on numerous charges, including vehicular homicide driver intoxication and aggravated assault.

Kroese, of Thompson’s Station, has been out on a $750,000 bond since the fatal accident. She will be arraigned on the indictment Nov. 25. Prosecutors say she would face an eight to 12 years sentence on the vehicular homicide charge if convicted.

by Ponce Law | September 24th, 2020

BRENTWOOD, TN – A lawsuit has been filed by the widow of a Brentwood police officer who was killed in a crash in June, WSMV reports.

This is an update to a previous story.

Officer Destin Legieza was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on on Franklin Road by a Jeep Liberty driven by Ashley Kroese. Investigators said her blood alcohol level at the time was twice the legal limit.

The officer’s widow, Heather Legieza, has filed a $7 million lawsuit against Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor in Franklin, where Kroese had been drinking before the crash. Kroese is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication.

The lawsuit claims an employee at the business continued to serve alcohol to Kroese even though she was visibly intoxicated, and that the business violated state law.  The suit says that the officer’s death directly resulted from Kroese’s consumption of alcohol.
