Crash alert: Truck driver charged after multi-vehicle accident in I-40

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN – A tractor-trailer driver has been charged in connection with an accident on Interstate 40 that left one person injured.

1057 News reports the incident happened Wednesday on I-40 at the 322 mile marker in Cumberland County. According to state troopers, three vehicles were waiting to turn on the exit ramp of Peavine Road when a tractor-trailer came off the interstate and caused a chain reaction crash with the other vehicles.

One person, identified as  Gregory Piggs of Cypress Inn, Tennessee, was injured in the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 37-year-old Alen Rogers of Crossville, was charged with reckless driving.

Crash alert: Tractor-trailer accident snarls traffic on I-40 west

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN – Drivers in eastern Cumberland County faced major delays over the weekend due to a tractor-trailer accident that caused a fuel spill, 1057 News reported.

Authorities said 34-year-old Justin Tabor of Crossville was driving a Peterbilt pulling a tanker Saturday morning when he lost control on Interstate 40 west at the 331 mile marker. The tractor-trailer hit a guardrail and ended up on its side.  As a result of the accident, about 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel being carried by the tanker spilled onto the highway and the median.

As crews responded to the scene for the cleanup, I-40 was shut down in the area from about 3 a.m. to 1 p.m.  During that time, drivers were detoured off the Westel Road exit to Highway 70 and then to Crab Orchard.

No one was injured in the accident. Tabor was charged with failure to exercise due care.

Crash alert: Overturned semi shuts down stretch of Briley Parkway

NASHVILLE, TN – A truck accident shut down a stretch of Briley Parkway in Nashville Wednesday morning, the Tennessean reported.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said a semi overturned on Briley Parkway west near Exit 18 in the area of the Brick Church Pike shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The wreck impacted westbound traffic with the roadway closed, but eastbound traffic was not affected. Officials were estimated the scene would be cleared at about 12:30 p.m.  There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured in the accident.

Crash alert: 2 injured when tractor-trailer runs off road on I-40

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN – Two people were injured in a tractor-trailer crash in Cumberland County early Tuesday.

According to 1057 News, the accident happened around the 337 mile marker on Interstate 40 westbound. Tennessee state troopers said 58-year-old David Clutter was driving a Volvo tractor-trailer when the vehicle ran off the road. The truck crashed into some trees and then came to rest in the highway median.

Clutter, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and a passenger, 61-year-old Larry Treat, were hospitalized at Cumberland Medical Center. No details were immediately released on their condition.

Crash alert: Collision between pickup, semi snarls traffic on I-65 south

BRENTWOOD, TN – A collision on Interstate 65 in Brentwood Wednesday morning left the roadway shut down and traffic gridlocked, News Channel 5 reports.

The crash, which involved a pickup truck and a semi hauling steel, occurred on I-65 near Exit 74 for Old Hickory Boulevard and was reported at about 9:30 a.m.

Police said no injuries were reported.  The semi lost its load and the vehicle’s cab caught fire, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed following the crash and traffic delays stretching back for miles were reported, as drivers were urged to avoid the area.

One lane reopened before noon, but state officials did not expect the interstate to be fully reopened until at least 9:30 p.m.

Crash alert: Tractor-trailer overturns in Nashville, shutting down I-40

NASHVILLE, TN – According to News Channel 5, a tractor-trailer accident slowed down traffic on Interstate 40 in Nashville early Wednesday morning.

The semi overturned on I-40 west near exit 208 just off Interstate 65 at about 4:45 a.m. No injuries were reported but first responders were concerned about a possible gas leak.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were closed just north of the downtown area for several hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene and remove the truck. Drivers were advised to take I-440 as an alternate route. I-40 reopened at about 9 a.m.

It is not yet clear what caused the semi to overturn.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – Drivers in Rutherford County were dealing with traffic delays on Saturday afternoon due to a cargo fire on Interstate 24, according to WSMV.

The incident happened on I-24 at mile marker 71, and was reported shortly after 3 p.m. The fire broke out on a vehicle that was carrying food products, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

No one was injured in the incident.  Traffic was getting by on just one inside lane of I-24 while the scene was being cleared.

Authorities were expecting the delays to last for several hours.

Crash alert: Victim identified in I-24 tractor-trailer wreck

MURFREESBORO, TN – State troopers have released additional information regarding a deadly tractor-trailer accident Friday night on Interstate 24, according to the Murfreesboro Post.

This is an update to a previous story.

The victim was identified as 43-year-old Jonathan Walker of Hartsville. He was driving his commercial vehicle hauling cattle on I-24 between Interstate 840 and Almaville Road when the accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m.

Investigators with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said a Honda Accord driven by a 17-year-old went out of control, hit a cable barrier and spun in front of Walker’s vehicle. The tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire.

The 17-year-old, from Murfeesboro, was injured in the accident.

Crash alert: 2 dead in Clarksville wreck involving car and tanker truck

CLARKSVILLE, TN – According to WKRN, an accident involving a car and a commercial tanker truck in Clarksville early Friday morning left two people dead.

Police said a Chrysler 200 convertible collided with the truck on 101st Airborne Division Parkway near the intersection with Peachers Mill Road at about 2:30 a.m. No details were released about the victims, or which vehicle they were in.

The accident slowed traffic for morning commuters in the Clarksville area, as the intersection was closed for several hours while the scene was being cleared.

The area reopened to traffic at about 8 a.m.  The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Crash alert: Tractor-trailer accident on I-40 leaves driver injured

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN – A tractor-trailer driver was hurt when his vehicle crashed and overturned in Cumberland County Monday, 1057 News reports.

Tennessee state troopers said it happened as 62-year-old Ralph Jeffery Story was driving a 2018 International on Interstate 40. Story, who was pulling two FedEx trailers, ran off the road and hit a guardrail at the 331 mile marker. The truck went down an embankment and ended up on its side.

Story was transported by helicopter to University of Tennessee Medical Center. Details on his injuries were not released.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
