Study Shows Decrease in Tennessee Seat Belt Use

You never know when a motor vehicle collision is going to occur, so it pays to be prepared. The Goodlettsville car accident attorneys at Ponce Law point out that one of the best ways to protect yourself from injury or death while driving is to wear your seat belt. However, recent data indicates that fewer Tennessee motorists are using this lifesaving piece of equipment than in previous years.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that seat belts have been shown to reduce crash-related injuries and deaths by around 50 percent. These numbers are why state law requires all motorists and passengers to buckle up. Yer despite state regulations requiring their use and a recent increase in the penalties for not using a seat belt, more and more Tennesseans are choosing not to buckle up.

WKRN 2 News says that a survey conducted by the University of Tennessee Center for Transportation Research and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found only 86.2 percent of motorists on our state’s roads were buckled up. That’s a 1.5 percent decrease from previous survey results.

At Ponce Law,  our Nashville personal injury lawyers would like to urge you to do your part to stay safe on the road by simply buckling up each and every time you get into a vehicle.
