Driving Safely in Winter Weather

Nashville has experienced below-freezing temperatures in recent days, leading to hard freezes both overnight and throughout the day. When you apply your brakes on black ice, you’ll skid rather than stop. Staying multiple car lengths back can help you avoid a rear-end collision when roads are slick.

One of the best ways to stay safe when roads are treacherous is to stay home. When that’s not possible, be cautious, proceed slowly, and avoid abrupt braking or accelerating to improve your traction.
