Four Steps to Take After a Work-Related Accident

Employers have a responsibility to protect the health and safety of their workers, but accidents are still commonplace in many industries. One such work accident happened earlier this month in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Reports from the Anchorage Daily News explain that on Thursday, May 15, an explosion occurred at the Gerdau Ameristeel Mill that injured six workers. One of the injured suffered significant burns, while the others suffered less serious injuries. All the victims were treated at a local hospital while investigators continue to probe into the cause of the blast.

While there are currently no answers to the questions surrounding what contributed to the blast, the Nashville personal injury lawyers with Ponce Law can offer steps to follow after a workplace injury.

In many work-related injury cases, applying for Tennessee workers’ compensation benefits can help you get reimbursed for expenses stemming from your accident, such as medical bills and lost wages. Our legal staff says four actions should be taken during this process, including:

  1. Reporting Your Accident- Tell your manager or boss about your accident. Then, follow up with them to ensure they reported the incident to the proper authorities in a timely manner.
  2. Seeking Medical Attention– In order to apply for workers’ compensation, your injury or medical condition will need to be verified by a doctor.
  3. Documenting The Incident– Make sure to hold onto all medical records, receipts, and other documents that are affiliated with your accident or related expenses.
  4. Calling A Lawyer– Michael D. Ponce & Associates have the experience to help you navigate your claim through the Tennessee workers’ compensation system.
