Nashville Dog Bite Lawyers Examine Risks of Canine Attacks

September 11, 2013

The Nashville Dog Bite Lawyers with Ponce Law point out that each year there are many Tennessee citizens who become the victims of canine attacks. These attacks can lead to particular breeds of dogs getting a reputation as dangerous, but data collected recently shows breed discrimination may be unfounded.

According to an article from The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle, more than 250 dog bites were reported in Montgomery County last year. Experts crunched the numbers from these cases and found more than 40 breeds were responsible for these incidents.

While pit bulls, German shepherds, and Labrador retrievers each had the highest number of bite instances, the team was also quick to realize that there were higher populations of these breeds compared to others.

Experts also stated that the severity of the injuries, not the number of biting instances, likely also played a part in giving specific breed reputations as dangerous.

So, what is being done in the area to help prevent dog bites from occurring in Tennessee?

State legislators recently proposed a ban on specific breeds, but the bill was shot down. However, similar regulations have been implemented on military installations in the area.

Michael D. Ponce and Associates’ team of Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers recognizes how devastating injuries caused by a dog bite can be. That’s why the firm is here to help anyone who has been seriously injured as a result of a canine attack.
