Danette Baskin
Fourth Grade
Mt. Juliet Elementary School
Mrs. Baskin helped me become who I am today. I was always the shy child; one who had a hard time making friends and had a hard time in school. Mrs. Baskin took me under her wing and worked with me consistently. She's was so patient and kind and taught me EVERYTHING I needed to succeed in school. If I ever had a hard time or a question, I could go to her and know that she would be there for me. Mrs.Baskin made me feel seen and made me feel like I mattered, but more importantly that I had had a purpose. She made me feel like she needed me as much as I needed her. When I graduated elementary school, she bought me the book "I Knew You Could," and wrote a beautiful note about how proud of me she was. To this day, nearly 20 years later, I still have this book. To me, it's more than a book. It was a symbol of who I blossomed to be all because one person believed in me. Mrs. Baskin believed in me and I held onto that for my entire school-aged career. She is selfless and inspiring. I can only guess how many wonderful children she has helped along the way. One this is certain though, Mrs. Baskin will forever hold a special place in my heart.
