Traffic delayed after truck spills chickens on I-40

NASHVILLE, TN – Traffic was delayed in Nashville Tuesday morning after live chickens fell off of a flatbed truck, according to a report by News Channel 5.

The truck spilled chickens in cages onto Interstate 40, slowing westbound rush hour traffic along the south loop at the ramp to I-65 southbound.

Traffic was also affected on I-24 westbound.  Tennessee Department of Transportation crews responded for the cleanup, and the TDOT advised drivers that it expected the scene to be cleared by 8:45 a.m.

Driver killed in I-24 accident identified

NASHVILLE, TN – Authorities have identified the driver killed in a collision with a tractor trailer in Nashville Friday night, according to a report by WSMV.

This is an update to a previous story.

The victim was 50-year-old James Danaby of Nashville.  Police say he was driving his pickup truck at about 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 24 near the Shelby Avenue exit ramp, when he slammed into the back of a tractor trailer that had broken down.

Danaby was removed from his vehicle, a 2004 Ford F-150, after being trapped inside. He was later pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

At this point investigators do not believe there was any impairment on the part of either driver that would have contributed to the accident.

Man killed when pickup crashes into UPS truck on I-24

NASHVILLE, TN – A man was killed when his pickup truck collided with a UPS vehicle on Interstate 24 in Nashville Friday night, News Channel 5 reported.

The crash involved a Ford F-150 and a UPS double trailer semi truck. It happened at about 11:30 p.m. on I-24 West at mile marker 49 near Shelby Avenue.

According to police, the Ford crashed into the back of the UPS truck’s second trailer after it stalled out just before the exit.

The driver of the Ford was removed from his vehicle and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Pickup truck crashes into fire engine in Smyrna

SMYRNA, TN – A driver is facing DUI charges after officials say he crashed his pickup truck into a fire engine in Smyrna Tuesday, wkrn.com reported.

Tennessee Highway patrol responded to the scene at about 9:50 a.m. on Enon Springs Road East.

Officials said the pickup truck driver rear-ended the fire engine then fled the scene on foot with his wife, who was the passenger in the truck. They were located by Smyrna police and taken into custody.

The driver is facing several charges, including DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. His wife has also been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, as well as public intoxication.

Both were booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Fuel spill from truck blocks stretch of I-80 West

NASHVILLE, TN – Emergency crews were able to clean up a fuel spill that closed off a stretch of a Nashville highway, according to a report by wsmv.com.

The fuel leaked out of a truck on I-40 westbound just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said. The incident caused parts of I-40 West to be blocked off.

A Hazmat team responded to the scene to clear the spill and I-40 West was reopened at Exit 210C.

The spill was apparently caused when the truck ran over a piece of metal that punctured the vehicle’s fuel tank.

Woman killed after being hit by dump truck

NASHVILLE, T.N. – A woman was killed after being hit by a dump truck in the West End on Tuesday afternoon, WKRN reports.

31-year-old Ruonan Yao was crossing West End Avenue in a crosswalk when she was hit by a truck turning left onto 31st Avenue South. Yao was a graduate student at Vanderbilt University. She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and later died of her injuries.

The District Attorney’s Office is still determining whether or not charges will be filed.

Tractor-trailer overturns on I-65 in Davidson County

DAVIDSON COUNTY, T.N. – A tractor-trailer overturned on I-65 on Saturday afternoon, June 6, according to WKRN and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The tractor-trailer became overturned around 12 p.m. near Exit 86, shutting down multiple lanes on the highway. The reason why the trailer became overturned is not known at this time.

Truck driver killed in crash in Hermitage

HERMITAGE, T.N. – A Nashville truck driver was killed in a fatal crash in Hermitage on Thursday evening, according to a press release from the Nashville City Government.

The press release states that 57-year-old Richard Lejeune was driving a 2020 Freightliner truck on I-24 West when he tried to successfully navigate a curve on the road and veered off the freeway. His vehicle then slammed into a nearby rock wall.

The victim was killed upon impact. Investigators do not believe he was impaired at the time of the accident.
