NASHVILLE, TN. – A 15-year-old girl tragically drowned while kayaking on Duck River on Sunday afternoon, WKRN reports.

The young girl, who was kayaking with her parents, capsized around 2 p.m. She then became trapped underneath a downed tree and was pinned underwater. Her parents attempted to rescue her but were unable to due to the river’s swift currents.

Various emergency agencies, such as the Bedford County Sheriff Department and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, responded to the incident.
