Tennessee Lawsuit Questions Security Measures at Brentwood Church

Tennessee law requires property owners to ensure the health and safety of visitors. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always occur, and premises liability lawsuits can result when someone is injured due to negligence. One of the most common types of premises liability claims is failure to provide adequate security.

A church in Brentwood, Tennessee, is currently facing allegations that it failed to provide enough security measures at its facilities after a 3-year-old child was sexually assaulted by a volunteer. The lawsuit is seeking a total of $37.5 million in damages.

An article from The Tennessean explains the child was left in the care of the perpetrator while the boy’s parents attended services. They discovered the child had been assaulted after he was hesitant to return to the church the following week.

The family of the victim field suit against the church, claiming it failed to adequately screen and supervise volunteers at the facility. Furthermore, proper security measures were not put in place in the classroom where the incident took place.

The lawsuit requests $22.5 million in compensatory damages for the victim, as well as $15 million for the victim’s father, mother, and sibling.

The Goodlettsville premises liability lawyers at Ponce Law are hopeful the resolution of this matter helps bring closure to the victim and his family.
