Nashville Swimming Pool Accident Lawyers Talk Safety As Memorial Day Approaches

Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching, and that means many swimming pools across Tennessee will begin opening. The Nashville swimming pool accident lawyers at Ponce Law would like to remind citizens of the importance of spreading awareness about pool safety—especially among children.

Statistics for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show an estimated ten people die as the result of an unintentional drowning each day. Of these fatalities, one in five people are children under age 14.

The risk of drowning was underscored by a swimming pool accident in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, over the weekend. The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, in the Willoughby Station subdivision.

Reports from WKRN 2 News indicate the 3-year-old victim was found unresponsive in the water by his parents and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. The victim is now recovering.

Our Nashville personal injury lawyers would also like to remind citizens about a few rules to remember when at the poo to stay safe:

  • Stay Supervised-Always have an adult on hand watching over swimmers anytime anyone is in the pool.
  • Get A Gate– Enclosing your pool area with a fence and gate can significantly reduce the chances of a swimming pool accident occurring.
  • Have Rescue Tools Handy– Every pool should have flotation devices and other rescue tools readily available in case an accident should occur.
  • Obey Pool Rules– Taking actions such as refraining from running on the pool deck and not consuming alcohol while swimming can also significantly reduce the chances of an accident.

We hope these tips help to keep you and your loved ones safe this summer!
