Honda Faces Investigations After Reports of Airbag Failures

Airbags are a vital piece of automotive safety equipment, and they are credited with saving thousands of lives every year. However, it was recently announced that a malfunction in airbag operating systems installed in 2008 Honda Accords can prevent the units from activating during an accident.

The Nashville defective product lawyers at Ponce Law explain the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation after receiving 19 complaints that airbags failed to engage. Investigators determined that the computer that controls the vehicles’ airbags was malfunctioning, prompting the airbag warning light on the dash to light up and preventing the airbags from activating until repairs were made.

The NHTSA is saying the Honda airbag failures could affect as many as 384,000 vehicles in the United States. The issue is already responsible for at least one accident. An article from The New York Times explained how a Florida man was seriously injured after the airbags in his vehicle failed to inflate upon impact.

It’s important that the NHTSA be made aware of Honda airbag failures. If the airbag warning light comes on in your vehicle, get the problem fixed as soon as possible and report the issue to the NHTSA.

The Nashville personal injury attorneys at Ponce Law are hopeful increased awareness of this serious safety issue can help prevent injuries.
