City of Clarksville Working to Improve Pedestrian Safety

February 10, 2014

A high volume of collisions between pedestrians and motor vehicles in Clarksville has citizens and city officials concerned about safety. Reports indicate at least six Pedestrian Accidents have occurred in recent months.

Since December 2013, a total of four pedestrians have been killed and at least two others were seriously injured as a result of collisions with vehicles in Clarksville. One victim was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while walking near State Route 76. Less than a month later, another pedestrian was killed at the intersection of Arrowood Drive and Fort Campbell Boulevard. Last week, two pedestrians were hit while walking along I-24. One of the victims died, while the other was seriously injured.

These incidents have left many citizens wondering what can be done to help prevent pedestrian accidents. Officials have stated it is important for motorists to be extra vigilant of those traveling by foot while driving. This means looking twice in both directions at intersections. Poor lighting and visibility have also been to blame for the string of recent collisions and prompted the Clarksville Police Department to offer several safety tips to pedestrians that can be seen here.

The Nashville Personal Injury Attorneys with Michael D. Ponce & Associates applaud the efforts the City of Clarksville is making to improve pedestrian safety and hope to see further action taken in the future!
