Earlier this year, independent researchers discovered millions of vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen (VW) were equipped with a device that cheated emissions tests. As a result, resale values of recalled vehicles were affected. The Nashville defective products lawyers at Ponce Law explain that this prompted the company to devise a plan for compensating owners of affected vehicles.
Yahoo! Autos reports that VW is offering incentive packages to owners of recalled VW diesel vehicles that includes a $500 gift certificate, a $500 discount on any new VW vehicle they decide to purchase, and three years of roadside assistance services. In addition, VW covering any of the costs associated with getting vehicles to meet current emission laws.
Many say the compensation being offered is far from covering the expenses related to the loss of vehicles’ values. Two U.S. senators stated the company should be offering a buyback option and owners of affected vehicles should also have the right to take legal action against VW. Civil litigation has already been filed in several states, including a Tennessee Volkswagen recall class action lawsuit.
At Ponce Law, we are hopeful that each citizen affected by the VW emissions scandal finds a resolution to the losses they are facing.
