Driving in Rainy Conditions

Rain is one of the biggest risk factors for car accidents. It decreases your visibility and your tires’ grip on the road. We recently asked forensic scientist and “Tyre Guy” T.J. Tennent about how to stay safe while driving in rainy conditions.

Check out the video to learn from the expert himself.

T.J.’s Tips for Driving in the Rain

T.J. recommends being proactive before driving in the rain. That means checking your tire pressure and tread, replacing your wiper blades every 6-12 months (earlier if they stop working), and turning on your headlights.

Slow down when it’s raining and put extra space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. In heavy downpours that limit your visibility, pull over into a parking lot until the rain subsides.

Finally, be prepared for hydroplaning, which can occur even at relatively low speeds. If you feel a sudden loss of traction, don’t slam on your brakes. Instead, gradually slow down until you regain control of your vehicle.

We’re Here After a Rainy-Day Accident

When other drivers don’t slow down and exercise caution in rainy conditions, they put themselves and others at risk. Ponce Law is here to help when negligent drivers fail to adjust to the weather.
