Fatal Tennessee Motorcycle Accidents Prompt Safety Concerns

November 11, 2013

Tennessee is battling a rising number of fatal motorcycle accidents. The Nashville Motorcycle Accident Lawyers with Ponce Law point out that a total of 114 motorcyclists died in the state in 2011. However, that number jumped dramatically to 139 fatalities in 2012. If accident trends continue, the number could rise even higher this year.

Most recently, a 22-year-old rider from Chattanooga was killed when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a tree near the intersection of Shallowford Road and Standifer Gap Road at around 10 a.m. on Oct. 12.

An article from the Times Free Press reported a 46-year-old rider was killed when he crashed along Access Road during the same weekend as the other crash.

These accidents brought the annual total for motorcycle fatalities in Chattanooga to five, versus four fatalities last year.

These numbers leave many motorists wondering what is being done to improve highway safety in Tennessee. Law enforcement says it will be doing its part to promote safety by increasing the number of saturation patrols focusing on motorcycle compliance. Chattanooga also plans to add to accident investigators to their staff.

The Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers with Michael D. Ponce & Associates are aware of the dangers motorcyclists face on the highway and are hopeful the recent efforts help reduce the number of motorcycle accidents and fatalities.
