Highway Patrol Hopes to Reduce Tennessee Truck Accidents Involving Teens Through New Simulator

Young, inexperienced teens are at the most at risk of being involved in a motor vehicle collision. One of the most dangerous machines they could have a crash with is a commercial tractor trailer. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is hoping to keep the number of Tennessee truck accidents involving teens and trucks to a minimum through a new simulator program.

Tennessee high school students taking driver’s education courses can partake in the simulator by first watching several videos that explain the physics behind moving and stopping such a large vehicle as well as discussing blind spots on trucks. Then, students have the first-hand opportunity to learn what it’s like to drive one of these vehicles by getting behind the wheel in the simulator.

An article from WBIR News states the hands-on experience the simulator provides gives students insight into the importance of giving tractor trailers plenty of space on the road.

The simulator is funded and sponsored by several different organizations and can be experienced by students across the state throughout the year.

At Ponce Law, our team of Nashville personal injury lawyers recognizes the importance of teaching teens how to be safe when driving. We ‘re hopeful the new simulator is successful in getting this message to the youth of our state.
