Inattentive Drivers Can Be Held Liable When They Injure Motorcyclists

Fall is here, and that means the weather couldn’t be any better for getting out and enjoying the day on your motorcycle. But even though the weather is cooperating, the drivers around you may not be. Inattentive and distracted drivers are the biggest threats that motorcyclists face on Tennessee’s roads, and the only way you can protect yourself against them is by riding as defensively as possible.

That means following two steps every time you ride:

Wear all the gear, all the time.

You can never predict if or when you’ll be involved in a crash while riding. Because of that, you must prepare yourself as though you’re at risk every time you ride, regardless of which roads you’re taking and how far you’re traveling.

Assume other drivers don’t see you.

As a motorcyclist, your biggest responsibility is to never take anything for granted. That includes whether road conditions are safe and whether other drivers can see you or are even aware of your presence. Don’t assume that the driver waiting to turn left knows you’re headed towards them—prepare for the encounter as if they don’t to reduce your risks.

At Ponce Law, our Nashville motorcycle accident lawyers know how devastating crashes can be for riders, even those who take safety as seriously as they should. Safety gear can save your life and reduce your risk of injuries, but even the most well-equipped riders can still be severely harmed when they’re struck by negligent drivers.

If you or someone you love was injured by a negligent driver, we want to help. Contact us today for a free consultation.
