Nashville Car Accident Lawyers Discuss the Dangers of Drugged Driving

November 25, 2013

Most drivers are aware of the serious dangers drinking and driving poses, but data indicates they may not recognize that driving under the influence of drugs and prescription medications is just as risky.

In a 2012 survey, an estimated 10.3 million Americans admitted to driving a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, a 3.7 percent jump from the 2011. Studies also showed nearly 20 percent of drivers who died in crashes in 2009 tested positive for having drugs in their system.

These statistics recently hit close to home. The Nashville Car Accident Lawyers with Ponce Law explain an alleged drugged driver seriously injured himself and two other motorists in Brentwood early this morning. Reports indicate the accident happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Old Hickory Boulevard, near Valley View Drive.

According to an article from News Channel 5, the driver of a Chrysler was heading east along Old Hickory when he veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a Toyota Corolla head-on. Three people were seriously injured as a result of the incident.

Investigators are looking into whether drugs played a part in the crash, after a bottle of prescription pills was found in the wreckage of the vehicle responsible for the accident.

Michael D. Ponce & Associates team of Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers ask motorists to prevent drugged driving accidents by never getting driving after consuming substances that impair judgment.
