Nashville Defective Product Lawyers Examine Recent Auto Parts Recalls

Defective Car Part Recalls

Recalls are launched to correct safety issues that are discovered after cars go on sale. Recently, several such recalls have been in the headlines, including one of the largest in our nation’s history.

GM Ignition Switch Recall

In February 2015, General Motors (GM) initiated a recall of roughly 800,000 vehicles due to problems with the ignition switch that allowed vehicles to shut off while in motion. This resulted in drivers losing control of their vehicles, and in many cases, crashing. Reports indicate hundreds of accidents were linked to the problem, resulting in 19 fatalities.

The GM ignition switch recall prompted more than 700 lawsuits from victims from across the United States.

Takata Airbag Recall

Last week, auto parts manufacturer Takata Corp. launched a recall of 34 million vehicles after it was discovered the company’s airbags can cause metal shards to be hurled towards passengers in the event of a crash. The Detroit Free Press reports that as many as six deaths and 100 injuries have been linked to the problem.
