Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers Encourage Safety While Sledding

Middle Tennessee has gotten it’s share of snow and ice this week, and that means it’s time to go sledding. The Nashville personal injury lawyers with Ponce Law would like to remind you that although sledding can be a fun way to pass the time, the activity also comes with some risks.

A combination of downhill speed and the inability to stop on slick surfaces can make sledding especially dangerous. Some of the injuries associated with sledding include broken bones, neck and spinal cord injuries, lacerations, and brain injuries.

To put into perspective just how common sledding injuries can be, WKRN 2 News reports that more than 28 children in Middle Tennessee were transported to the emergency room over the past few days due to sledding injuries.

Sledding accidents have also prompted premises liability concerns in the past. In Tennessee, if a person suffers an injury while sledding on your property and you fail to warn them of the risks they may face, you can be held responsible for covering the costs of their care and damages.

In order to avoid sledding injuries, children are encouraged to wear helmets when sliding downhill. You should also choose the location where you sled carefully. Stay in the park or yard and avoid sliding down asphalt that may be iced over.

We hope these tips help to keep you and your loved ones safe during the winter blast of 2015!
