The Nashville Swimming Pool Accident Lawyers with Ponce Law say that there are more than 7,000 people who lose their life to drowning accidents each year. Drowning is the fourth most common cause of accidental death in the nation.
Many of these accidents can be prevented if a few simple steps are followed. Experts say that 80 percent of drowning accidents occur at residential swimming pools or spas. This means there is likely not a lifeguard on duty and pool owners should be vigilant at all times.
Those with pools should ensure there is someone supervising swimmers anyone is in the water. No running should be allowed on the pool deck. Sturdy fences can help ensure no one inadvertently falls into the water. Some pool owners have even had alarms installed that will give a warning if their pool areas are breached.
Most importantly, parents should always teach their children to swim. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, more than 200 children died this year as a result of swimming pool drowning and many were never instructed on how to save themselves in the water.
