Nashville Truck Accident Lawyers Discuss Changes to Hours of Service Regulations

In Tennessee, there are strict laws that regulate the operation of commercial trucks because of the risks they can pose to motorists. And recently, a bill was passed that will reform parts of the Hours of Service (HOS) laws for drivers of concrete trucks in Tennessee.

The Nashville truck accident lawyers at Ponce Law explain that drowsy driving is one of the leading causes of preventable crashes in the transportation industry today. The HOS laws address this issue by limiting the amount of time a truck driver can be on the road and designating specific amounts of time a driver must rest as well.

One of those laws states truck drivers are not allowed to operate their vehicles until eight hours after their last 30-minute break. Those in the concrete industry argue their drivers shouldn’t be required to abide by this rule because they aren’t doing long, tiring hauls for hours the way long-distance truck drivers operate.

According to the Times Free Press, lawmakers agreed and exempted drivers of concrete trucks from having to take the 30-minute breaks for the next two years.
