NHTSA Releases Tool to Provide Vehicle Recall Information

In the wake of the General Motors recall of millions of vehicles due to faulty ignition switches, the public has become more aware of the dangers posed by defective vehicle parts. But how can you make sure your car, truck, or motorcycle is safe and free of faulty equipment? Luckily, technological advances are making getting such information much easier for consumers.

According to an article from News Channel 5, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has created a tool on their website that provides the most current recall information on vehicles. Simply plug in your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the system will pull any information it has on recalls or warnings that may affect your particular vehicle.

Vehicle manufacturers update the system on a weekly basis. That’s why experts say motorists should not only use the system to regularly check the status of the own vehicle, but also to check any vehicles they are renting or considering purchasing for any problems as well.

Officials say they believe giving the public more access to recall information may help prevent accidents, which in turn could reduce the number of the most common auto accident injuries we see today.

At Ponce Law, we have seen the devastating results an accident caused by faulty vehicle equipment can have. That’s why our Nashville personal injury attorneys encourage you to use the NHTSA’s tool on a consistent basis to ensure your vehicle is safe.
