A new report issued by Allsup, a provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, outlines the most dangerous jobs in America as well as the most dangerous states to work in, in an effort to draw attention to the life-altering effects of debilitating work injuries. The study is based on 2011 data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, and highlights the most dangerous industries by location, based on the rate of injuries that are severe enough to require “days of job transfer or restriction” – in other words, a actual change of job or major limitation of work duties. If you have suffered a debilitating injury or illness in Tennessee that prevents you from performing your normal work duties, consult our skilled attorneys at Michael D. Ponce & Associates to discuss your legal options. You may have grounds to file an SSDI claim with the Social Security Administration (SSA), in order to pursue the disability benefits you deserve.
While Tennessee certainly wasn’t pegged as the most dangerous state in America, it did round out the top five most dangerous states for workers, along with Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon and South Carolina, for an eight-way tie. According to the Allsup report, there are 0.8 injury/illness cases with job transfer/restriction per 100 workers in Tennessee, which is above the national average of 0.7 cases per 100 workers. That said, the driving force behind the Allsup study was to shed light on the prominence of work injuries that result in disability. “A lot of people focus on job-related fatalities but very little attention has been paid to workplace injuries or illnesses,” said Allsup exec Edward Swierczek, who reports that more than one million workers in the U.S. every year suffer an injury that causes them to miss a day or more of work. “They’re the sixth-leading cause of disability claims, and more attention needs to be paid to how they happen, how they’re reported and how they’re treated.”
Too often, a serious work injury results in a physical or mental disability that prevents the victim from returning to work temporarily or sometimes even indefinitely. Unfortunately, in addition to the effects of the disability itself, a serious injury or illness can put a considerable financial and emotional burden on the victim and his family as well. In many cases, incapacitating injuries require extensive treatment and long-term care, which typically results in costly medical bills on top of lost wages due to missed time at work. If you have been the victim of a debilitating illness or injury in Nashville, and you think you may be entitled to Social Security disability benefits, contact our knowledgeable SSDI lawyers at Michael D.
