When a person dies as the result of another person or entity’s negligence, the family of the victim may have a right to seek compensation through civil litigation from the party responsible for their loss. The Nashville Wrongful Death Attorneys with Ponce law explain that such a case was recently settled in a Dickson County courtroom.
According to an article from WSMV 4 News, the lawsuit was filed by the family of a 29-year-old woman in August of 2011 after she died while in transit to a Nashville, Tennessee, hospital from a Charlotte, Tennessee, drug rehabilitation facility. The suit claimed that in September of 2010, employees at the New Life Lodge attempted to transport the woman in one of the facility’s vehicles to a hospital 30 miles away, rather than calling an ambulance to transport the victim to a closer facility.
The family claimed the rehabilitation facility’s staff failed to protect the victim from harm and was seeking $32 million in damages; however, a settlement was reached in the case for an undisclosed sum. Two other similar cases are still pending against the facility.
The Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers with Michael D. Ponce & Associates are aware of how difficult it can be to lose a loved one in an unforeseen accident. That’s why the firm is hopeful the decision that was reached in this most recent case brings a sense of closure to the family of the victim.
