Driver in crash that killed cop had blood alcohol over twice legal limit

by Ponce Law | June 23rd, 2020

BRENTWOOD, TN – Court records show that a woman had a blood alcohol level over twice the state’s legal limit when she got into an accident that killed a Brentwood police officer, according to a report by wsmv.com.

This is an update to a previous story.

The driver, 24-year-old Ashley Biance Ruth Kroese of Thompson’s Station, crossed the center line on Franklin Road in Brentwood on June 18 and hit a police car driven by Officer Destin Legieza.  Legieza, who had been heading back to his precinct after an overnight shift, was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Kroese has been charged with vehicular homicide. Her blood was drawn upon request by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and showed a level of 0.166.  Tennessee’s legal limit is 0.08.  Footage from a traffic camera showed her driving north in the southbound lanes of Franklin Road without any headlights, authorities said.

Kroese was released from the hospital Sunday and was subsequently arrested. Bond was set at $750,000 when she appeared in court on Monday.

How to Stay Safe at the Tennessee State Fair This Weekend

by Staff Blogger | September 5th, 2014

Fall is quickly approaching in Middle Tennessee, and that means it’s time for the state fair. The Nashville personal injury attorneys with Ponce Law point out it’s not just rides and games that will be part of the event this year. There will be plenty of music, food, and drink as well.

Tonight, beginning at 6 p.m., the Taste of Tennessee Festival will kick off at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. The event will feature a craft brewer’s festival on Friday night that will include some of the region’s best beers—including selections from Black Abbey and Calfkiller brewing companies.

On Saturday, the festival will continue with samplings from the state’s top distillers. More than 20 companies, such as local favorites Belle Meade Bourbon and Corsair Distillery, will provide tastings of their spirits.

With so many drink options available, the chances of attendees being involved in a Nashville drunk driving accident may be higher than normal. That’s why Ponce Laws ask that you do your part to stay safe by planning ahead prior to attending fair events if you plan to drink.

Select a designated driver or use a cab or ride-sharing service, such as Lyft or Uber, to get home safely.

We hope these tips help you to have a safe and fun time at the fair this weekend!
