Tennessee Car Accidents in Construction Zones

It’s only the beginning of June, and already this week there have been three accidents along I-240 near construction zones in Tennessee. Late Friday morning, a cleanup was still in effect for an accident that took place before rush hour along 240 and Walnut Grove. According to the accident report, a vehicle swerved to miss a car stalled in the roadway and caused the driver of a tractor trailer to swerve and hit a concrete median. The accident happened in a work zone and slowed the flow of traffic for hours. Although the accident wasn’t caused by the work being done to widen 240, it’s the third major accident this week along the same stretch of interstate. Tuesday, the driver of an 18-wheeler was killed when his big rig left I-240 and hit a tree.

A Tennessee Car Accident Attorney Can Help

TDOT tries to limit road work to weekends and at night when there is less traffic, but is warning drivers in Tennessee to pay attention to what’s going on around them on TN roadways. “Watch out for everybody. Don’t be distracted playing with the radio or being on the phone,” said Rick Knoll with TDOT. Unfortunately, the road work along I-240 in Tennessee isn’t expected to be finished until sometime next year. To reduce the risk of TN work zone accidents and the injury and loss of life caused by car accidents in Tennessee, TDOT is asking drivers to be patient, saying it only takes a few second to get through a work zone.
