Tennessee Ranks as Tenth Most Dangerous State for Drivers

There’s always a risk of being involved in an accident—no matter where you drive. But certain places can be more dangerous than others. That’s why the Nashville car accident attorneys at Ponce Law think you should be aware of just how hazardous Tennessee’s highways can be.

WKRN 2 News says a recent poll ranked Tennessee as the tenth most dangerous U.S. state to drive in. The state recorded a fatality rate of 15.3 deaths per 100,000 drivers, which is 5.0 deaths greater than the national average.

These numbers leave many motorists wondering what they can do to keep our roads safe. Here are a few tips:

  • Watch your speed- Traveling too fast is listed as a contributing factor in roughly one-third of all fatal accidents. So, always be sure to follow the posted speed limit.
  • Buckle up- A majority of fatal accidents involve victims not properly restrained at the time of a crash. Wearing a seatbelt can significantly reduce the chances of being harmed in a collision.
  • Don’t drink and drive- Each year, thousands of Tennesseans are injured or killed as the result of drunk driving accidents. You can avoid these collisions by always using a designated driver.

At Ponce Law, we hope these tips help you enjoy safer travels!
