Volkswagen Recall Lawsuits Beginning to Pile Up

In the wake of the announcement that Volkswagen (VW) misled consumers into thinking their vehicles were environmentally friendly, dozens of lawsuits have been filed. With so many recent lawsuits, the cases may soon be consolidated into multidistrict litigation.

The Nashville defective product lawyers at Ponce Law explain the emission systems on as many as 500,000 American vehicles are manipulated using a “defeat device” to show lower emission rates during testing. VW vowed to repair the vehicles affected by the “defeat device,” but the company has added the caveat that they will not begin making the repairs until next year.

In the meantime, the values on many of the affected vehicles may plunge. Some plaintiffs in the lawsuits that have been filed against VW argue they paid higher rates for vehicles that created fewer emissions, while all the victims maintain the company’s misrepresentations have led to the declining values of the vehicles.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a decision as to whether or not the cases will be consolidated in federal court should be announced in the coming weeks. The cases could cost VW billions of dollars.

At Ponce Law, we understand the frustrations many VW owners are feeling. That’s why our legal staff hopes a decision on how the Volkswagen recall lawsuits will be handled can help owners and car dealers affected by the emissions scandal.
