Winter weather pummeled the Middle Tennessee region with snow and ice this morning. For many, the weather meant a snow day. For others though, it was the cause of serious crashes that resulted in Nashville Car Accident Injuries.

Reports from WSMV 4 News state the Metro Nashville Police Department had received 47 crash calls by 7 a.m. Highways were shut down across the region due to these accidents, including one collision on I-65 that involved at least five tractor-trailers.

The road conditions in the area have many citizens wondering what they can do to prevent accidents in winter weather. The Nashville Personal Injury Lawyers with Ponce Law explain there are several tips that should be heeded when preparing to travel in snow and ice, which include:

  • Don’t Drive If You Don’t Have To – The Office of Emergency Management in Nashville is asking drivers to stay off the roads if at all possible throughout today and tonight.
  • Be Prepared – If you must travel, take extra supplies, such as food, water, flashlights, spare batteries, and blankets or sleeping bags. Also, know the road conditions along the route you plan to travel.
  • Drive Defensively – Buckle up, go as slow as necessary, and do not brake if you lose traction. Instead, shift into a lower gear and gently press on the accelerator to regain control of the vehicle.
