Another wrongful death lawsuit was in connection with a fatal Tennessee truck accident on June 25 along I-75 outside of Chattanooga. The suit was filed by the family of former middle school band director who died in the crash. They are seeking $11 million in damages.
A report from the Chattanooga Times Free Press explains the driver who caused the crash was under the influence of drugs and was in violations of hours of operation laws when he crashed along the interstate, killing six people and injuring several others. Furthermore, he was speeding and failed to allow enough time and space to stop the truck before crashing.
The actions of the driver aren’t the only cause of the crash, though. The company who hired him failed to conduct a background check before offering him the position as a driver.
These findings prompted the family of another victim to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver and his employer The suit claims both parties are directly responsible for the loss of their loved one.
Two other families of victims have filed similar claims against the driver and employer since the collision occurred.
Losing a loved one to an unforeseen accident can be extremely difficult, and the Nashville wrongful death lawyers at Ponce Law are hopeful a decision in this case will bring closure to those affected by this tragic crash.
