There’s an old adage that the best defense is a good offense—and it can certainly be applied to the idea of highway safety. The Nashville car accident lawyers at Ponce Law are excited to learn that hundreds of agencies in the state will receive funding to make Tennessee roads safer.

According to WATE 6 News, $17.8 million was granted to Tennessee organizations and agencies to improve highway safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is providing the funding via the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.

Tennessee’s Department of Transportation Commissioner, John Schroer, explained Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Cocke, Cumberland, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, McMinn, Roane, Scott, and Sevier counties would each receive a portion of the awards. The money will be used to fund programs that provide safety training and public education, as well as enforcement of laws that can prevent speeding, distraction, and drunk driving accidents.

At Ponce Law, we believe that a well-rounded highway safety plan can help reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities on our roads. We’re hopeful these funds will to not only improve our current highway safety programs, but also help to create new ways to reduce motor vehicle collisions in Tennessee.
