3 Ways to Prevent Secondary Car Accidents

Nashville car accidents are dangerous enough, but the individuals that investigate and service these crashes face hazards, too. Each year a large number of law enforcement officials, tow truck drivers, and crash victims are hit by cars while working at accident scenes.

This type of accident happened at approximately 10 p.m. on May 8 along I-24 in Montgomery County, Tennessee. Reports from News Channel 5 explain a Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper was working a crash scene when a separate crash involving three other vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, occurred on the highway next to him. The impact of the collision caused one of the cars to strike the trooper.

Incidents like this leave many motorists wondering what they can do to prevent such crashes. That’s why the Nashville personal injury lawyers with Ponce Law would like to offer these safety tips:

  1. Obey Tennessee’s “Move Over” Law- This bill requires motorists to move one lane of traffic away from a stopped emergency vehicle with it’s lights activated. If another lane of traffic is not available, drivers should significantly slow down.
  2. Don’t Rubberneck- Taking even a split second to take your eyes off the road to look at a crash scene can cause another accident to occur.
  3. Be Extra Vigilant- Watch for things like debris or people who may be in the road. Slow down to avoid such obstacles.
